Breakfast with Michael Schweisheimer
Today we’re having breakfast with Michael Schweisheimer, SBC member and Founder of PWPvideo!
We don't meet for breakfast anymore, but if we did, what would you want on the table?
A smorgasbord of Philly breakfast sandwiches from just about any roach coach on any corner in town. I am partial to a sausage, egg, and cheese. And no ketchup, you heathens. I'd also suggest letting breakfast sandwich expert Dr. Neil Bardhan plan any such menu.
Can you share a little about what you do and what drives your work?
I am an intersectional impact super fan. I have run a Certified B Corporation that primarily serves the nonprofit sector, as well as other impact organizations, through video production and communication for 25 years. I also co-founded MISSION Story Slam in 2018 to bring our partners together to share stories behind the hard work of doing good. And I am the Chair of B Local Philadelphia, which is a collective of Certified B Corporations in Philadelphia and the surrounding metro area, using business to better serve our communities by leveraging our collective resources to drive positive social and environmental impact. And there are other boards I will leave off this list. Everything I do is aimed at the lofty goal of creating a better community in our region, and hopefully beyond.
What’s one thing about your background or journey that might surprise people?
The first MISSION Story Slam was the first time I ever told a story on stage in that format. Beyond that, I'm an open book. If you've met me, you know.
Who in Philly inspires you right now, and why?
There are many people I want to name, but I'll just say that most of them were in attendance at my first GPLEX in Chicago earlier this year. Tapping into that not-so-hidden vein of impact-driven leaders in this region, and seeing that so many others believe in the power of generous networking, gives me hope and inspiration.
If you could invite anyone (living or dead) to an SBC event, who would it be and why?
I'm torn between Terry Gilliam and David Byrne. Having met a few famous folk in my line of work, I'm not much of a fan boy, but for those two I will make an exception.
What’s one book, podcast, show, or other piece of content you’re enjoying right now?
Currently, I'm enjoying The Harvard Plan podcast from reporter Ilya Marritz. If you want something to lighten the mood, I keep rewatching the show Fisk on Netflix. It's a small Australian sitcom you have never heard of, and I cannot recommend it enough.
Whether he’s amplifying impact-driven organizations, bringing people together through storytelling, or quietly building community behind the scenes, Michael shows up with intention and generosity. We’re grateful to have you as part of the Club, Michael. Thanks for having breakfast with us!
